Path to Divorce
My wife and I felt quite emotional last Monday after our short Zoom session. All three of us hugged. It felt like the end of a relatively short but profoundly enriching journey with you which started in June at your home office on Waiheke Island.
We came to you with the family having spent the past 18 months dealing with our daughter’s anorexia/bulimia and low mood and my wife and I separating and on a pathway to divorce. We had been diligently following Family Based Therapy (FBT) and been very successful in restoring our daughter’s weight to healthy levels (several times) only to fail to push through the phase of passing control back to our daughter; this is when anorexic/bulimic behaviours re-appeared and our daughter’s weight quickly reduced.
Since our in-person sessions with you on Waiheke and subsequent Zoom sessions my wife and I are now back together in a transformed relationship and our daughter is maintaining her weight with little intervention from my wife and I. Our daughter’s mood overall has improved as well. It’s early days, but we feel optimistic and more positive about the future. It is comforting to know you are still available if we need you.
My wife and I feel very privileged and grateful that we found you and that you are applying your knowledge, experience, humanity and quirky sense of humour to improving the lives of people with eating disorders in Aotearoa. We are also very grateful that you were instrumental in my wife and I restoring our marriage and in doing so, creating a more stable environment for our beautiful daughter Our daughter to beat the eating disorder and negotiate the challenging years of adolescent growth.
We will keep you updated with progress from time to time as we know you like to do follow ups.
Once again, sincere and heartfelt thanks from us all.
