Social Network – NZ Eating Disorder Specialists

Anorexia and bulimia are social problems. They emanate from and are made better or worse by relationships. The bottom line is that the better your relationships are, the less stress, the more you have a voice, the greater the chance, the lesser is the monkey on your back (i.e. the eating disorder).

This website uses the new technology of social networking for addressing this problem. Specifically, we are building a community of people that understand that the more they work to create a socially stress-free environment, the more control they will have over the life and their eating disorder.

As the videos show, the more effective people are in addressing (rather than avoiding) conflict, the more able they are to have control.

It is sometimes difficult to have the courage to address these issues. This is where this website is ideal. It is a community of people to share stories and support one another in this area of addressing conflict.

“The body says what the mouth won’t.” One of the founders of family therapy, Virginia Sattire, said that. That is, with your voice and your power as a person, you need to address these inter-personal issues.

This website seeks to build a community of people who will support each other in this challenge. If addressing these issues were easy, people would do it. But the important part is to not be mislead as one addresses these problems. The more support you have when addressing these problems, the more effective it will be.

We see this as a non-professional community-based resource for you and your family to an on-going way have better control of the debilitating and very dangerous eating disorder. Let me emphasise, however, that this is not in lieu of professional help. This is the building of a support group to help you and your family through.
